Shiputilities Help
This tiny and easy to use program is provided to give quick and straight forward access to 5 different
information resources commonly used by people in the industry frequently.
The following 5 resources are covered:
Dry cargo Stowage factor.
Specific Gravity for Liquid cargo.
Common Shipping Abbreviations and explanation.
Crude Oil Specifications. (API, bbls/mt, name etc.)
Holidays world wide.
Each of these are simple enough but usually NOT at your fingertips when you need them. So we bundled
them together in a simple, quick loading, resource lenient, application for your benefit.
Installation
We deliver the program as a self-installing package containing all the files needed to run the program. Just
follow the instruction and place SUv1 in a directory/folder of your choice. Default is C:\Windows\Program Files.
The installer will place a shortcut to the program on your desktop and in your start menu.
If you have not registered and paid for the software you will still be able to run the program for a period of
15 days (or 10 instances) and upon expiry of the trial period you will be reminded to register or you will have
to delete the application from your computer(s).
Data Base and Maintenance
The data base consists of 5 .csv (comma separated values) files, one for each of the resources above.
These files can be opened and edited with almost any text editor. We invite you to freely make your
own entries but would at the same time encourage all users who makes amendments, additions or
modifications which they believe would be useful for others to send these to us as mail attachments
so that we keep the resource files as fresh as possible. We would also like to know if there are any apparent
mistakes in the files provided so please drop us an email at Shipanalysis.
Dry cargo Stowage factor
Pretty straight forward. Press the button marked "Stowage Dry" Provides the user with the
stowage factor in a vessels holds for a given commodity. You can either scroll down to the commodity
you are looking for or enter the first few beginning letters of a commodity in the box beneath the main
window and the full name and the stowage factor measured in cft/mt or cbm/mt appears in the main window.
SG Liquids
Press the button marked "SG Liquids" and you will find the specific gravity for a substantial
amount of fluids. very useful for estimating intakes on tankers. Otherwise the operation is the same
as for the Dry cargo resource.
Abbreviations
Common shipping industry abbreviations used in a multitude of instances incl. chartering activities,
fixture notes, contract of affreightments, memorandum of agreements, general exchange of the written
as well as the verbal word. Type in the first few letters and press "explain" it is that
simple.
WW Holidays
Ever had problems remembering if there is a local holiday in the next port of loading or discharging??
fear no more bring up ShipUtilities and enter either the country (first few letters) gives you the list
in the main window or enter a date (NOTE dates should be entered as m/day i.e 8/28) and you will
get a list of all countries with a holiday that particular date. Please also observe that the main window
of this module is scroll able also horizontal to give you more detailed information and comments on the
that particular day. For instance even during national holidays certain sectors of the country may still
be working whilst others are off.
Crude Oil Specifications
Press the button marked "Crude Oil" and you will find the names of various crude oils,
country of origin, specific API, sulphur content and bbls/mt.
Calculator
Press Features -- Calculator with the mouse or use the keyboards Ctrl+C and you will get a very simple
calculator based on use by the keyboard only, either straight forward or via the num+lock. This
calculator does not pretend to be a scientific tool but gives you quick access to calculate the intake
of bagged wheat in a vessel's given hold capacity. Why make it more pretentious than it is 80% of the
time, right!!
Contact us
Press the logo (you can't miss it) on the application off you go to the home of Shipanalysis, the owners
of ShipUtilities v1.0 and the providers of some of the worlds most advanced forecasting techniques
available for the shipping industry.
